First half in Japan, second half in America
I was born in Japan, and my childhood was spent completely immersed in Japanese culture and language. I learned English from communicating with my parents who were American English teachers in Japan. Moving to Charlotte NC, at age 12 was not only a major shift in my life, it presented the ultimate learning challenge of my lack of English skills. I encountered many culture shocks as well as language barriers, which ultimately helped shape who I am today and the interests I am pursuing.
